July 13,2016

Hello,

My Apologizes for not writing my blog on time I was having trouble getting started.
My Internship has been pretty great. At first I was nervous to meet the people who work there but then I got more comfortable. The first thing they had me do was work on the computer in my own cubicle that was a different experience I had to use "word" to re-type or copy and paste the educational outlines the MIM has for the Teachers on there website. My knowledge has increased greatly about museums I have been able to see where they set up the exhibits where the work space for the teams is. This weekend that passed I was able to help in the Experience France:Event it was super cool to see how they manage an event. Everything that leads up to a Event like that having to do meetings and meetings with curators and connecting community partners. Learning how to use a photo booth and counting the number of guests. I also learned that it takes a much money to advertise and seeing the differences from last years event and this year. Everything in a museum needs to be done consecutively  because if not it falls back. I learned how to talk to people like greeting the people that are coming is very important even if its just the Face Paint Lady and maintaing good relationships with partners. Cultural organizations play a big role in these kind of events for the community through MIM that happen since they are asked what they feel should be put into the program and get the contacts for cultural performers as well as promoting the event. Education plays a huge role the Education Team at the MIM handles the programs for school/group field trips and planning a cultural event. Months and months lead up to this event and then after the event a briefing event of how it went is important for next year. The concert dates and cultural events are planned ahead in advance the Field trip programs are changed or put new ones for the next year even though there still working during the year but making it better next year. Museums need to have these set so that the boards can review them and accept it have time for changes. This internship connects to YAP because its the same kind of process with dates, networking and having no drama but calmness in uncertain situations so that everything keeps giong smoothly. Networking was huge during Washington week and I have done that with people that work at the MIM and guests I have met. Its pretty amazing what one conversation can do and start a friendship. The whole team new my name but had not seen me and when they did they asked "OHH you're Yudidt is that how you say it?" or " How do you pronounce you're name? What does it mean?" those kinds of questions made me feel important and started again the story of my name and last name which lead to who i am and where I come from.
I was able to interact with my community by serving them. One huge point I have noticed at the MIM is many of the staff are white and theres very little diversity only the janitors/helpers where not white and one African American lady who works there I have only seen. I felt again that feeling of having too represent the Hispanic community and in my mind I am grateful to be there and make myself part of the MIM Museum. The feeling of being out of place did come in but it quickly went away with the Teams Hospitality and Kindness to me. Some of the most nicest persons I have met in AZ are at the MIM which is hard to say in AZ where many people are very rascist but the MIM are very well educated people about music and the world which is super impressive and I am able to learn more because of them. The Experience France Event was fun, exhausting but humbling.

That has been my week.

With Love,
Yudidt Nonthe Sanchez
