Arte America-week 2

So far the internship has been great I am especially seeing quite of bit of connections not only from Washington week but from a lot of my college prep story classes also. This week at Arte Americas I worked in several different areas. One thing I did was I cleared out one of the galleries that had water damage. I also worked in the packaging room storing and organizing different materials that arte uses to package up their artwork. While working in the packaging room I was able to package several different art pieces which was a little bit of a struggle especially if the art work was big.  This week I also did a lot of setting up tables and chairs because this week arte had several different meetings on their different projects such as Dia De Los Muertos and Poets & Writers murals.
I also had the wonderful opportunity to meet some of the board members of Arte Americas and I was able to tell them about my experience in Washington DC and the YAP Program. I also was able to spend a lot of time answering the phone and building up my over the phone e conversation skills. This week I also spent an hour and a half on the phone with an ATT agent trying to fix our internet connection and that's not including the 25 minutes that I spent waiting to talk to an agent. Haha so I guess I really learned how to be patient.
Something that has really connected with Washington week and my internship is networking and making connections. The Director of Arte Americas and also the curator has told me a lot about this. Arte Americas is a very small nonprofit organization that isn't widely known but is know to a good few people. Mr. Frank Delgado has gotten Arte one of the best exhibits showing a lit of big name artists from LA and also from our own town in Fresno. I asked Mr. Delgado how did you get to meet so many different a artist from all over. And he explained to me that he had known only two big artist, I can't remember their names, but he said that they had come to see the women's exhibit and was telling them how he would love to show Gronk, and Shepherd Fiery and Jose Ramirez in his next show. And through that his friends were like well I know Shepherd fiery I will talk to him and see if I can get you a few pieces and they also new Cronk and other great artists that we know have in our galleries at arte. So through Mr. Delgado's connections Arte Americas was able to get this big exhibit that would be a great show in LA and he was able to bring it to Fresno, so that our locals can come see these wonderful prices of art for free. I thought that this was pretty cool because just by knowing these two people Mr. Delgado was able to get a whole exhibit together with many different artists.
Another thing I have observed here is a huge amount of collaboration, teamwork, and planning. Every Tuesday we have our staff meeting, consisting of only seven people including myself, and we have been talking a lot about there fall projects and what sort of ideas they have come up with. We have discussed how can we make it more known and how our we going to let people know about it, which reminded me a lot of Washington week especially because I was in the marketing team. We discussed post cards, t-shirts, and ha omg it on our social media sites and our radio station. Every time someone had an idea they brought it to the group and they asked what everyone else thought about it. Which I really liked because everyone had the opportunity to express their feelings and then we eventually came up with something even better that everyone could live with.
A lot that I am learning here is connecting back to some experience that I ha e gotten before which is really nice because now I am growing in these different experiences and improving on what I can do better.
