I've been having so much fun at my internship that I can't believe I only have one week left.
This week I got to have breakfast with Colorado State Historian, Patty Limerick. All of the stories she told us about the people in Colorado's past were fascinating, plus she's really funny. I also joined some staff members at the museum in volunteering at a local soup kitchen. It was a very nice to be able to make an impact in the community.
The online exhibit we've been working on about the history of hispanos in Colorado went live this week! Here's the link if you want to check it out: http://exhibits.historycolorado.org/lagente/lagente_home.html
(we are still making some minor adjustments)
Also after a good long while wandering the museum and paying attention to how wide every hallway is and how to incorporate pillars into exhibits, I came up with some designs for El Movimiento's new home. I'll be showing them to the design team next week. Hopefully, we can make it a permanent exhibit!
I also had some fun making a small flock of paper cranes for the JA trunk.
Preparations are in full swing for one of the museum's most popular days, Colorado Day, celebrating the 140th anniversary of our admittance to the Union. As a result I spent some time in the shop steaming and then hanging state flags. I also got to see our historic 38-star flag (we're number 38). I am very excited for the celebration on Monday (and to see Top Hogs! Colorado's most talented pigs! perform).
Lastly, I've been helping with an NEH grant the museum is putting together. I am learning a lot about the Sand Creek Massacre (did you know that a congressional inquiry into the incident held up Colorado's statehood, or that a Methodist pastor was instrumental in the massacre?)
Hope you guys are having a great week!
