Things were really cheap( recyclable materials) compared to real life, but kids learn how to manage a $500 budget. Of course, using Monopoly money. |

I found these statements very interesting and got me thinking about the future of STEM. |

(Disclaimer: I did get their permission to take a photo of them) Their challenge was to build a contraption that would allow a person in a wheelchair to be able to serve food to their dog. |
July 28 - 31
Last Week of Internship
July 28, I started working again ( I was away at Orientation). I was able to observe and interact with the children in one of the classrooms of the Museum School. The classroom's theme was NASA and space exploration . The kids ( about 12 of them) created a night sky and constellations on a small piece of paper. They did this by using paint and a sponge and blotting, then using green, red and blue stars stickers( represents temperature/ color light of stars). The kids also had the opportunity to see 3rd graders launch their own handmade, small rockets using Alka-Seltzer. In the afternoon, I spent time in the STEM camp and learned about what the kids were doing for their projects and how they were putting their engineering thinking caps on to design something in such a short notice and learning how to manage a budget.
July 29
Today I spend the morning part of my shift in the Children's museum. In here, there is a grocery store, hospital, train-track building section and kids can also see a tarantula, snake, and other reptiles. In the afternoon, I spend my time with rising 3rd-7th graders creating STEM Projects, which included a motorized Ferris Wheel, a prosthetic knee, a dam, a bridge, and paddle boats. Today they were finalizing their projects and building them. From 3 to 4 p.m. was the STEM Showcase, where the kids presented their challenge, engineering design process, steps and demonstrated their working projects to their parents while eating popcorn.
July 30
Reel Adventures
From 6 to 8 p.m. is Reel Adventures. I have to dress up as an animal researcher, or like a person who works in the safari. My supervisor will let me know tomorrow what my specific role and station will be.
July 31
I will be in Children's Museum and it will be a Museum Exploration Day, where I will get the chance to explore the whole museum in detail and attend a Planetarium show.
Last Day August 3rd
I had to return my two blue shirts I used as uniform and my name tag. Two days later, I send my supervisor feedback about my experience and the museum. In the future, I plan to come back and visit and buy something from the gift store and some other cool souvenirs.

Agenda for STEM Projects |
|
Do you have a 20/20 eyesight? This can be found in Children's Museum. This section is the ambulance and hospital and kids pretend to be doctors and weigh the fake babies. |
|
Cuento de nunca acabar. As soon as I put up the fake grocery items, another basket was full already. It gets hectic in this section really quickly. |
|
Fake cashier machines |
|
DinoLabs is really popular. The museum has 2 dinosaurs' bones on display |
|
Puppet Screen. It was so cute that a couple took a picture of them kissing behind the screen. #couplegoals |
|
The location of the museum has been the same, it was just remodeled and rebuild recently. |
|
The museum has 2 floors |
|
Panorama of African masks |
|
Cavemen performing Skull Surgery |
My Story Time was moved to August 4th 12-1 p.m.
